Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how CanaryGuard ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies on canaryguard.app. As a security-focused product, we take a minimal approach to cookies -- we only use what is strictly necessary for the platform to function. We do not use any tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They are used to remember information about your visit, such as authentication status and preferences. Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (remaining on your device for a set period).
2. Cookies We Use
CanaryGuard uses only essential, functional cookies required for the platform to operate. We use no optional or third-party cookies.
2.1 Supabase Authentication Session Cookie
- Purpose: Maintains your authenticated session so you remain signed in as you navigate the platform
- Type: Essential / Functional
- Duration: Persists for the duration of your session and for a limited period thereafter to support session refresh
- Provider: Set by Supabase (our authentication and database provider) via canaryguard.app
- Data stored: An encrypted session token -- no personal data is stored in the cookie itself
2.2 PKCE Code Verifier
- Purpose: Part of the Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE) authentication flow, a security standard that protects the login process against authorization code interception attacks
- Type: Essential / Security
- Duration: Temporary -- used only during the authentication process and removed upon completion
- Provider: Set by Supabase via canaryguard.app
- Data stored: A cryptographically random code verifier string used to validate the authentication exchange
That is our complete cookie list. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or any other analytics or tracking service. We do not serve advertising cookies. We do not use social media cookies. We do not use any third-party cookies whatsoever.
3. Why So Few Cookies
CanaryGuard is a cybersecurity product. Our users trust us with sensitive security data, and we believe that trust starts with respecting their privacy. We have made a deliberate design decision to:
- Use only cookies that are strictly necessary for the platform to function
- Avoid all analytics and tracking technologies on our marketing and application pages
- Not monetize user behavior data in any way
- Keep our cookie footprint as small as technically possible
Because we only use essential cookies that are required for the service to operate, we do not display a cookie consent banner. Under GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement.
4. How to Manage Cookies
Even though we only use essential cookies, you have full control over cookies stored on your device. You can manage cookies through your browser settings:
4.1 Browser Settings
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data
4.2 Impact of Blocking Cookies
If you block cookies from canaryguard.app, the authentication system will not function and you will be unable to:
- Sign in to your CanaryGuard account
- Stay signed in between page navigations
- Access the token management dashboard or any authenticated features
Blocking our cookies does not affect the operation of your deployed canary tokens. Tokens that have already been created will continue to function and trigger alerts regardless of your cookie settings.
5. Changes to This Policy
If we ever need to introduce additional cookies (for example, for new functionality), we will update this policy and notify you before any new cookies are set. Our commitment to minimal cookie usage is a core principle of how we build CanaryGuard.
